I meant emailing the guy who asked about him privately, not Jonathan.

I guess I revise my opinion...I agree it's a valuable way to weed people out, but I don't think the bare sentence was appropriate. It should have included a non-emotional explanation of the problem that led him to make that statement. Without that, we don't know if he is saying someone stole $100,000 from him, or didn't return a phone call. Just a little context would be helpful!

  Seems to me that lists like these are well-suited for sharing both good and bad reports about vendors.  (I don't mean to comment upon whether any particular statement is defamatory.)  In this instance we've seen that a negative report about Jonathan was immediately met by multiple very positive comments.  Seems clear that one guy had what he considers to be a bad experience while many people have had good to extremely good experiences.  


  On the basis of that, I'd suspect that while Jonathan may not be perfect, he's a pretty reliable vendor in the opinions of most of those who deal with him.  That's good enough for me.
