[W126 Coupe] gas prices

We run E10 here in Colorado in the winter months. They say it is because it burns cleaner so we have less emmisions. However you get worse fuel economy from the E10 (and even worse from E85). So my argument is if you have to burn more fuel because you are using E10 and you have to consume more. Where is the savings?

Here in Florida, the big push is for E10 (10% ethanol blend) with a new law passed that mandates its use by 2010. However, even though it burns cleaner and is supposedly cheaper that regular gas, it is not being sold any cheaper here and they neglect to tell the consumer that ethanol provides only about 2/3 the power of pure gas. Thus giving cars using E10 about three percent less fuel economy while not running as well. Also, the older the car, the gas mileage is affected even more. Cars built before 1982, may in fact, sustain engine damage from using it.
Since it is primarily made from corn and corn is used as feed for cattle, the cost of beef is increasing.
I guess that we'll have to start eating veggie burgers and quit driving our coupes and donate them to either museums or scrap yards. Or maybe we'll have to look at converting them to Prius power.

Ohhh such a senstive subject with our group ;-)

Like the prez sez, "we're hooked on oil!"
As I had said before, I would hope alternatives would be better researched.
The government here (germany) doesn't tax LPG (yet!!). I would think if our
(US) government were clever and is *really* serious about getting us off and
to improve overall security, they would follow suite.
Still it is nice to drive a guzzler from time to time ;-)
