[W126 Coupe] AIR BAG SPECIAL TOOL AND MECHANIC/SHOP IN NEW YORK CITY AREA

 Hello, I recently replaced my steering wheel and followed the instructions given by Axel and Gerry Van Zandt. which you can find in the archives. To make it easy:
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Remove passenger side carpet and remove black plastic cover from footwell held in by 10mm nut . There should be a warning sticker on this cover that specifies disconnecting battery and red plug when working on airbag or seat belt pre-tensioner if so equipped.
3. Find the red plug about 1"X2" on the right side and unplug it.
The rest is the same as what Axel describes.
You will need to enter the radio code if your car is equipped with the OEM Becker GP radio.


 Here's what my new steering wheel looks like thanks to all your help.

The tool you need to remove the airbag is a Torx bit. The size is T-30 and get a long one so that it can reach the heads which sit fairly deep in the steering wheel.

Also, make sure you extend the steering wheel to have more space behind the steering wheel to work with.

?

To avoid any risk of blowing the airbag while you're working on it, I'd recommend disconnecting the battery half an hour before you start removing the airbag.
