Remove the floor mat from the passenger footwell, remove the plastic cover (10mm sheet metal nut) then pull the red lead out of the electronics module. THEN pull the airbag.

  What is the proper way to remove an airbag equipped steering wheel? Disconnecting the battery probably is the first step.
