[W126 Coupe] Electrical / start problem

Dick,
The wiper stays on after the engine is started. So I turn the wiper to the intermittent position and turn it off. Then it stays off. The car runs fine once its started. Perhaps what you suggest, a corrosion at the starter connection. Since we are in Los Angeles, this shouldn't happen, but you never know.
Thanks

Shin

This is a new one.? Does the wiper only do this when you are holding the key over for the starter to crank?? Does the wiper stop after the engine has started?? If so, perhaps the ignition switch or ignition harness at the rear of the ign. switch.? That will be a tough one to sort out and require some time under the dash with a dc rpobe while trying to replicate the condition.

?If not for the wiper, I'd look at connections to the starter for corrosion.? Regulator is fine where your charging rate is good.

Just a few guesses I'm afraid.

Hi all,

Recently my '91 560 SEC has had slow starting. When the ignition is turned on, all the lights in the instrument panel come on and when cranked, it is slow and the wiper turns on without the switch being on.? Then it starts and maintains until the engine is shut off and the same is repeated. All indicator lights including charging turns off when the engine is on. This has been going on for at least two weeks so I checked the battery voltage which reads 12.45 with engine off and 13.65 with engine on. So it can't be the battery and it seems to be charging. Any ideas on what it could be? Some short along the way? dieing regulater?

Thanks to all of you experts.
