Dick,
I'm already running WM 6.1 and I like it well on my 8525. Check out
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes or
www.howardforums.com for additional ROMs and great stuff (free of
course) for your 8525. I recommend waiting for either the HTC Touch Pro
or the Sony Xperia X1 if you are going to commit to another contract
with AT&T. Both of these units are substantially faster than what we
currently have and have some interesting bells and whistles.

Dick,
You could always go to the AT&T Tilt which is the latest (until this
year) generation of the HTC for AT&T. It will run WM 6.1 when it comes
available. The main problem with the iPhone is the lack of 3rd party
apps. I have had some trouble integrating the e-mail to exchange
servers, but that is supposedly resolved.

Thank you all for the remarks regarding the two devices and their
respective OS's. I picked up a second HTC8525 for some further
experimentation. This way I avoid the pain of learning what works and
what does not. Just going to swap the sim card as needed.
I'll try the Apple <http://www.apple.com/> for a day next month while
touring an event in Atlanta. That should be enough time to see if the
few apple issues have been resolved and to measure the value of the
android unit that is soon to be released. No rush, I do like the UI on
the apple. But, equally and with some comfort, I like the long battery
life, qwerty keyboard and the fact I'm totally familiar with the htc's
business capabilities after 2 years of use. So, this time I'll not run
but walk to the next great techy toy.
Regards,
Dick

Hi all,
I've been running a Mobile 6.0 cooked rom (not the vanilla ATT/Cingular
5.0 version) on an HTC 8525 for the past 2 years and have been very
happy with the set-up. But, I thought I'd ask what others think about
the newest Apple iPhone with 3G.
I know Microsoft took an OS and then tried to make it into a mobile user
interface (ui) leaving me with frequent use of just the finger nail or
the stylus. It seems Apple started with the UI and built a most elegant
and efficient touch flow solution that everyone raves about.
I've got a lot of time invested in the HTC 8525 with all of my apps and
customizations. It does get great battery life, has a camera, flash,
flashlight, stereo bluetooth, and movie capture all of which I use with
daily frequency while traveling and for work.
So, while I see the IPhone winning hands down on the UI and now
presumably offering 3G speeds, what about what some are saying as very
short battery life when running a VPN to company exchange server as well
as living without the above features.
Should I take the iPhone plunge or wait things out for a while more?
Regards,
Dick
