Gary,

The 140's suffer from a rash of electrical gremlins, evap issues and of 
course the wiring harnesses failing.  Also, @ this stage plan on leaking 
power steering pumps ($$$$ compared to a 560), leaking cam actuators, 
replacement of the oil feed tubes wouldn't be a bad idea either..  Other 
worry is you are getting into the sealed for life transmissions and 
ridiculously extended drain intervals on oil changes.   Finding an AMG 
version of these cars is nearly impossible...most of what's out there 
that's called "AMG" just has a set of wheels on it.

If you find a car that has been enthusiast owned, w/ proper (above and 
beyond factory recommendations) service and the majors tended to 
(harness and evap ideally) you should be in OK shape.  But when it comes 
time for service be Ready for expensive parts and lots of labour.  They 
may be available for cheap but fixing them is still like fixing a 100K 
car...Again, much more so then our 560's.

You would be better served looking to the end of the 140 line w/ the 
m119...I think 97/98...just avoid the M113...it's a crap/cheap engine 
IMHO...Plus, you get the .6 5sp transmission which will help out quite a 
bit when rolling down the highway!
