I guess one question to ask is, do ANY 3G phones have "good" battery
life? One test has shown that the iPhone 3G is better than all of the
rest when in 3G mode. And in non-3G (2G, 2.5G?) mode, it does very
well, too:

Another question is, how often will you be 5 hours away from any means
of recharging? Laptop, car, or office? When I get home from work at
night, instead of dropping my phone on the counter somewhere, I drop
it into its dock. It syncs and charges all by itself. If I'm in the
car, I plug it into my radio. It plays my tunes and charges. If I had
a 3G phone, I probably would also have a dock (or a USB cord to my
computer), but with my first gen iPhone, I don't really need it.

As far as security, the iPhone supports IPSec VPN and WPA2 Enterprise
and 802.1X authentication. And can use Microsoft Exchange Active Sync.
I'm not a network expert, and don't know how well their implementation
is, but it sounds adequate.

Dick, does your 8525 have 3G capabilities, do you use it and are you
happy with its performance? I guess what I'm asking is that you said
you are very happy with what you have, so, like Jonathan, I'm
wondering why you would want to change?

Regards,
Steve
