Two quick points:

1st, bandwidth is still king in speed issues; so if your signal  
strength is significantly stronger on the Edge network, d/l speeds  
will be better than on the 3G network with poor signal strength.  So,  
as per usual, your mileage may vary.

2nd, i've just  installed the new 2.0.1 software update which is  
supposed to, among other things, improve battery life.  We'll see...

In any case, I'd still wait 'til you actually need to make a change.
