[W126 Coupe] Engine death rattle ?

At 100k miles the chain is due to be changed. A stretched chain results in chain slap at the moment of engine start-up and that often breaks up the [old, brittle] chain guide rail. Most chains jump at the moment of start-up. Whether that is the noise or not, I'd be saving bottle money for a new timing chain/guides/tensioner soon. Otherwise, the risk of trashing the engine keeps raising.
