They will foul out in about 10K miles. I tried a set no good. You need a
high voltage ignition system. They will work in any Benz that has coil pack
ignition systems. As this is a higher volt system. The 560 does not.

Stick w/ the correct Non Resistor plugs. In other words, write any new
Bosch plugs off your list. If you can, find some NOS W9DCO's..if they
have an R in there you Do Not want them.
That aside, you should have an easier time finding NGK BP6ES's, or as
you say the Beru's..

If you use the Bosch +4's I think you need to change your plug wires. The
standard plug wires wont fit the +4's.

Clay,
In regards to the start behavior after sitting awhile... there is a gas
tank return line (pressure controlled) that should return excess
gasoline (due to increased temperatures from the engine when it is shut
off) such that it should easily restart after sitting a few minutes...or
even sitting longer. I have had your problem on previous Mercedes...but
my current Mercedes (an '84 Mercedes 500SEC) does NOT have this
problem...even after sitting in 100 degree temperatures for an hour or
so. The engine is simply 'flooding' with gasoline...and that is not the
way it was designed to work.
Regards,
Larry Martin

Hi Everyone,
Does any one here in Arizona Scottsdale /Phoenix recommend a shop that
is good and honest ? Looking to take mine in after one last change of
the fuel accumulator that I ordered. Car will start instantly after
sitting in garage overnight w/battery disconnected. I you turn off and
restart right away again it starts instantly. Let sit for a minute and
you have to hold pedal almost to floor to restart. Any info welcomed,
Clay Moizo

Hi Axel,
It will get back to "drivability" issues for sure - I will get my
calculator working and confirm the hardware ratio installed and then try
shifting up/down at 100kmh to get a feel for driver comfort at that
speed. (Engine noise, consumption.).
Fortunately, I have the facility to buy the internals for the diff and
have the guys engineer it into the existing housing for me.
I threw the issue at a group of my buddies - automotive engineers that
are the design A team in one of big car companies here in Oz (one of
them did his study with Benz in the late 80's and knows the SEC quite
well) - they do say terrible things about our cars BUT do mill about
with respect when it is on the hoist! A comment made recently was "that
is how we should do this part if we had the budget" (a rear suspension
component).
There is some enjoyment for many with this machine.

I have a set of hood hinges, but let me make sure

My replaceement hood came with hinges (if I recall
correctly). I'll post my results tomorrow. Where

Correct, you you have to unscrew the tip off the top of the spark plug. It
will work if you do that. But forget it, they are junk.

If you use the Bosch +4's I think you need to change your plug wires. The
standard plug wires wont fit the +4's.

Hi All,
A strange thing is going on. Last week my power steering got weaker (all
at once, not gradual, and stayed that way) - more effort required at the
wheel, not like it's not working, but I'd say 25% more than normal & and
is the same at idle or driving. Normal play at steering wheel, and
returns to straight by itself when driving. Fluid is normal, no bubbles.
Pump sounds normal, no gurgling or loud sound. I lifted the front end
and can turn the front wheels by hand with normal effort. Is there any
kind of compensator that adjusts pump pressure to change based on
driving speed? I did break a temperature / vacuum switch on the intake
manifold which I am waiting to replace, but otherwise I can't see
anything wrong. My next step would be to put a pressure gauge on the
pump output to see if it's the pump or the gearbox. Does anyone know
what the pressure should be? Any other thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Did you check the power steering filter? Its location is inside the pump.
Remove lid, then remove the 8 or 10MM nut, pull plastic careful its spring
loaded if I remember. Then you'll have to use to 2 hooks to pull it out. Or
just bend a coat hanger. It has to be pulled straight up or it will not
come out. You do not have to drain the fluid out to change this filter.
That would be my guess.

That's where I would start..It is a 10mm nut..having a 1/4' 10mm deep
will make life easier. A pair of needle nose will get the filter out
w/o issue. It's also a Great time to flush the fluid.
I'd found to Really get it clear to the point where it stays as much it
takes about a gallons worth of fluid, ie, drain, refill, run, turn the
wheels back and forth some 10 times, drain repeat..
If that doesn't do it I would plan on a re-man pump.

I recently called my local Benz dealer to ask if he had and Bosch W9DCO
plugs for my 1988 560 SEC and he said he did. When I went to pick them up
he
handed me WR9DC+ plugs. His computer screen indicated that W9DCO'S were
Bosch
#003-159-10-03, the same number on the box of WR9DC+ plugs. I didn't take
them
and when I got home, I checked one of the old plugs in my 560. It was a
WR9DC+. Apparently the t shop that put in these plugs when I bought the
car 3-4
years ago, used these resister ones.
My question now, is what is the difference....will anything be
harmed...should I change them immediately or stick with this type? The car
runs very well
as is but I want to do the right thing while I am going to put new wires
on.
Thanks,
Russell

Mercedes has specified in the past that the maximum level of resistance
is not to exceed 5Kohms or damage to the ignition componentry could be
damaged.
The resistor plugs on their own have 5Kohms resistance, couple that w/
the 1K in the wires, and the 1K in the cap etc and you are well beyond
the specified maximum.
I would inspect your cap and rotor while doing your wires..chances are
these plugs contributed to your wires demise.
I would remove the plugs and run replace it with the correct non
resistor plugs.
