[W126 Coupe] fog lights

Some of our Jap cars, particularly 4WD's have some powerful lights set at normal fog light level. They are probably referred to as fog lamps for want of a better term, and these have been the subject of complaints. My 86 420 SEC has lights set under the bumper which function about as well as you described yours, but the local fuzz does not differentiate.
Would like some feed back from anyone who knows what driving lights will fit.

Jack;

What constitutes "fog lamps"? My '83 SEC has a pair of white lights set under the bumper that are supposed to flare outwards and illuminate the edges of the road. They are pitiful at doing so. I can't imagine why they would be "illegal". I can't even tell when they are on!

I have an '83 SE European and the "fog lamps" are set behind the same lens as the headlamps. The function is the same and they are terrific. I have excellent wide angle illumination.

I gave up on the SEC fog lamps. I use 100/80W H4's in my headlamps, same as I have for years in the SE. That gets all the distance I need, and more. I never use the "fog lamps".

It is illegal to use fog lights in this fogless part of OZ, (West), so I would like to replace mine with long distance driving lights to enable me to see the kangaroos & bulls in time to avoid them.
Does anyone know of a product that will fit the same space, please? Hella & Narva are popular brands here. Thanks, Jack OZ.
