[W126 Coupe] defeating ASR (was: universal dash symbols)

I used regularly defeat the standard ASR on my 1994 E500 by just
unconnecting one of the ASR/ABS wheel sensors under the hood. Yes you
get ASR and ABS lights on, and the computer throws and stores a code
(easily cleared), but you get unfettered ability to burn rubber as
needed.

Later on I installed a factory "ASR OFF" switch in the dash and
connected it through a relay directly to the ABS computer underhood,
so that it throws the ASR light but still retains ABS. Little bit of
wiring through the firewall and some soldering and such, and $50 or
so worth of parts, but worth it to control by a factory switch from a
W140.

For the SEC, probably best just to jump the 5 and 6 pins as was said.
The snow chain switch isn't worth squat and is a very poor to zero
substitute for the jumpering process.

As said, it's best used for auto-cross and drag racing (tire warm-up
burnouts) but otherwise best to just keep the ASR on. It really can
and does keep you out of trouble.

Cheers,
Gerry
