Hi Cord:
If you find the scratchy sound is affected by moving the factory fader
in the wood console, there is an easy fix. Try cleaning the fader
switch with a liberal spraying of tuner cleaner while rotating the dial
back and forth. The cleaner needs to be applied to both sides of the
fader dial. The switch can be sprayed in place but, I prefer to just
remove the fader switch from the console. Do the cleaning then blow it
dry and re-install. That should remove the static issue you describe.
If the static remains, try finding a fader switch from a junk yard or
perhaps eBay that fits your SEC.
I see your original post had thoughts of replacing the speakers. If in
fact that is your preference, send a note back to the list. You can
either refurbish the Becker components you have or do a complete upgrade
that includes the receiver, all wiring and all speakers. There is no
middle of the road solution in my opinion.
Regards,
Dick
Tuner cleaner is available at electronics stores and maybe even WalMart.
Compressed air - compressor and wand if you have one; canned air
(WalMart), or just pick up a tire valve at the local auto store and hold
it to the end of a gas station air pressure valve and you've got a shot
of air.
