[W126 Coupe] Window gasket fabric renewal

The large compound gasket between the roof and window is a very expensive
part.  Several years ago, it cost >$800 per side, and I'm sure it's even
more outrageous today.  Well, I have been troubled by some wear and staining
on the fabric portion of the gasket for several years now, but I never
thought it was worth replacing.  I went to several auto upholstery shops and
was told there was no way to fix it-it would just have to be replaced.

 

Well, I finally found a real craftsman here in Houston.  While renewing the
headliner, he replaced the fabric on all of the door and window gaskets and
it looks completely original!  If you are interested, email me offline and I
will gladly furnish you with more information about his shop.

 

So if yours is worn out, dirty, or has cigarette burns in it, it can be
recovered without replacing the whole (ridiculously expensive) part.
