GORILLA GLUE............and "props."
Gorilla glue has held up in my Florida SEC for over a year now, with no
letup in sight. Epoxy failed in two previous attempts.
To clamp the wood, I used 1x2 wood pieces cut into "props." Each was braced
against the headrest posts (cut a "U"-shaped indentation in the end of the
stick to hold the stick on the headrest post). At the opposite end, I wrapped
a piece of 3/4" rubber heater hose around the other end of the stick, which
I left square. The rubber hose protects the wood from scratches and gets a
firm grip on the face of the wood, like rubber on the road.
Pre-fit the props, using the power seat adjustments to apply clamping
pressure. You'll have to cut the sticks to custom lengths, to obtain equal
clamping pressure. Once it's all set up, back up the seat, apply the Gorilla Glue
as directed, then clamp with the seat again. WATCH OUT for glue squeezing out
from the clamped area, since it foams and expands and is well-nigh
impossible to remove later.
I let the clamps stay in place overnight for good measure. No enduring
patience, and no classical music required. ;-)
