[W126 Coupe] timing chain question ?

smog pump? I assume thats the belt driven device that pumps fresh air into
the exhaust when the engine is cold to help emissions. My mechanic took the
belt off and said that its a useless part of the car. They only put it on to
help pass emissions when the car leaves the factory.
