[W126 Coupe] While on the subject of front-end noises

Hi Jeff:

Check the brake support link (MB Manual Job # 33-540).  If you notice 
the clunk when braking or accelerating from a stop this is the culprit I 
am afraid.   For a visual inspection it's easy enough to check, raise 
the car, turn the front wheel in or out to get a view at the area near 
the cabin footwell or just remove the wheel/tire, take a look at the 
boot on that ball joint.  If it's torn or cracked water gets in and the 
whole assembly wears out rapidly.  You can also try leveraging the front 
control arm forward and see if this same joint moves freely.  If so, 
it's time to replace on both sides of the coupe and then do an 
alignment.  This part is also referred to as a strut or guide rod mount kit.

I'm just doing this job plus the two big rubber bearings on an 86 300SE 
Euro 126 chassis.
