Jay;
You're sure it is the valve cover gasket and not the head gasket? That is a common failure spot.

I'd clean the whole area well and install another new valve gasket. You shouldn't have to use sticky-stuff.

I own a 1989 560SEC (80k miles) and have a problem with an oil leak. Specifically, a valve cover(passenger side) gasket to head leaks oil at lower rear just above where the exhaust begins to turn down toward rear of car. A new gasket was installed but did not fix the problem. The cover appears not to be warped and no light shows through on flat surface.Is there a sealant that will seal aluminum to rubber or is there something that I may be missing.
Also can the auto head rests be removed to install sheepskins with pre formed holes without taking apart upper part of front seat? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jay K.
