Hello, I have always been fascinated by MB espcially the W126. I am finally
ready to get one. I am looking to get a second generation W126. Is the 300E
underpowered to drive ? compared to the V8's and is the difference between the
420 and 560 noticeable? also is it simpler to maintain a short wheel base
non L car with an inline six? and thirdly I realize the importance of maintence
but is there a mileage based maintenace schedule for the W126 similar to
something followed by BMW enthusiasts for those cars. Thanks

Abbas Agha, welcome to the group. I have a 1991 420 SEL (4 door 126 body)
and a 90 560SEC (2 door coupe) and the difference in power is quite
noticeable. In fact when I switch cars I have to remember not to be so heavy on the
gas with the 560. I love both of the cars for different usage.

Horacio,
A few years ago I got the Aero II Monoblocks from The Tire Rack. I see they
don't offer those on their website for the 560 anymore.
However, you may want to contact Luke, I believe extension #362, at The Tire
Rack. He is very familiar with this fitment as he helped many members on the
list, myself inclusive. He often has access to more information within their
operation than what is offered on the website.
I also have a set of two rear 18" X 9" Aero II's with 275/35/18 Bridgestone
Potenza Pole Position tires on them in almost new condition. They are for
sale if you are interested.
I'm running some different wheels on mine now.
If Luke or someone can hook you up with the two front 18"X8" with 245/40/18
rubber on them, you're set.
You may contact me off list if you are interested.
Good luck,
Sam

Hello,

I am new to this forum and am in the process of acquiring a '91 560SEC. In
the meanwhile I have been searching for larger rims - the car I want to
purchase comes with stock rims - such as the AMG Aero II Monoblocks or the ones
that Satish Tummala has on his car.

Unfortunately, even though many MBCoupes' members have that type of rims,
the stores I contacted, in this case TireRack, said "Thanks for your question
to The Tire Rack. Unfortunately, the Aero II wheel is not available in the
correct offset to fit your vehicle. I apologize for the inconvenience".

Can anyone provide me with the name of a retailer who stocks the rims that I
am looking for?

Kind regards,

As an aside, one of my clients but the "last set of 17" Aero II's that
fit the 126 according to luke..

18's I find a touch much for the suspension on a 126...skinny side walls
aside, an 18' Aero II 8' wide weighs 54 lbs with rubber..:-/

Horacio,

If Sam is offering his rear Aero II Monoblocks to you, jump on the deal if
you can locate the fronts. I bought his 18 x 8 set last year and they were
just like NEW. The guy is meticulous and takes good care of his wheels. I
was hard pressed to believe they were used. I can vouch for the quality of
those wheels when I last saw them. They were immaculate! I would have bought
them at the time, but the budget just said NO! Check out Sam if you can
Horacio. You will never regret it.

Sincerely,

John

Jim;

Did you get a chance to test the Fuel Pump Relay as described by Jonathan?

A couple of other suggestions:

I gather that the problem only occurs after you have been driving a while
and have stopped. Then it won't restart. If you are a bit uncertain about how
to jump the contacts on the relay, or you are not sure where the relay is,
there is another easy roadside test requiring no equipment. When the engine
won't restart remove the air cleaner and squirt some ether ("Quick-Start" or
any starting fluid) straight into the intake horn and try again. (You can
carefully use a little dribble of gasoline... like 2 tablespoons if you don't
have a can of ether) IF the engine starts for a couple of seconds, the problem
is definitely in the fuel delivery system. The Fuel Pump Relay is usually
the culprit.

Another thought: If the engine does NOT fire using the ether test, the
problem is on the ignition side.

If you leave the car sit with the engine hot and idling for and extended
period of time (like 15 minutes) has the engine ever just suddenly died by
itself and won't restart? If you test everything you will find you have neither
spark nor fuel. The problem is the rpm pickup on the flywheel which is
connected directly to your ignition module. When the pickup fails, the ignition
shuts down and so does the fuel pump relay. (The good news is it is neither
difficult nor expensive to replace)Do let everybody know what you find.

Hi,

I desperately need some help. I have a 380SEC 1984 model. When I start it in
the morning or after a rest of more than 4 hours, it starts up fine,
however, if I drive it for say 20 mins, switch it off, try and start it again its as
if the motor gets no fuel and wont start. The starter is turning over but
nothing. Then if I leave it there over night, it will start up fine the next
day. I have taken it to 2 mechanics that can?t seem to find a problem as it
will start for them after playing around with it for a while.

Any suggestions??

Thanks

Hi,

Don't post to the list much anymore, but thought this might be of help /
interest to
the lot. A guy has gone through and done a fairly indepth restoration on his
SEC.
No commentary, all in pictures, but you can figure it out.

If for some reason the link does not work for you (maybe you have to be
logged
into Benzworld, I don't know), go to benzworld, the forums and then the W126
section, and select the My 500SEC thread (it is currently on page 2).
