[W126 Coupe] HI IDLE

OK this isn't hard.
* I used a "solder sucker" tool with a soldering iron to remove all
the solder from the two electrical connection pins. If you can't get the
solder out of there, you will need to heat up both pins at the same time in
order to get plastic end out of the metal barrel. Once the solder is out of
the pins, use a pair of needle nose pliers to get the wires loose in the
pins.
* With a Dremel type tool, grind off the end of the metal canister
that bends over the plastic end connector, leaving just the straight metal
barrel. I think I only took off about 3/32" of metal.
* With the wires now loose and the metal barrel ground away, slide the
plastic end out of the ICV.
* Scrape the end of the broken wire clean (it probably broke about
3/8" or less inside the barrel), then solder another wire to the broken lead
long enough to reach out through the pins. With the end of the broken wire
scraped clean, I bent a hook in it, added the new wire, with a hook in it,
then soldered them together.
* Slide the plastic connector back into the barrel, obviously with the
wires extending out of the pins. I used JB Weld Kwik epoxy to hold it in
place.
* Solder the two wires in the pins.
* Done.

Hey Mike,
I have this same problem and I tried what you said (the screwdriver
thing) and my car did idle better for lik one sec then it went back up to 1k
rpm. So I would like to know how to repair the ICV.
Thank You,
Hovsep

Try gently smacking the idle control valve (ICV) with a plastic screwdriver
handle. If that makes the idle run up or down, then it has the generic
internal broken wire. If so, you have a couple of choices. A new ICV is
several hundred dollars, don't know what a used one costs, or you can fix
yours for free.
Let me know if you have a broken wire in the ICV. It's not hard to take it
apart and resolder the wiring.

Hello All,
I just replaced the original steel fuel injectors with brand new shiny brass
ones along with new seals, holders and air tubes. Also put in new Beru spark
plugs. Engine now runs nice and smooth but now have intermittent high idle.
Tried cleaning out the idle control valve with carb cleaner with no
appreciable effect. Do I need a new idle control valve or is there another
culprit to hunt down?
