oops, i seem to have mistaken the valve apparatus for
a pump.
yes, fuel pump makes much more sense, since it didn't
shut off before i got tired of waiting. :)

That location leads me to believe you are referring to
the fuel pump.
The hydraulic pump for the SLS is in the engine
compartment.
The fuel pumps will make an audible noise if you stand
next to the car.
If you start hearing the fuel pumps while you are
inside the car with the doors and windows closed,
you'd better order a new one and set up an appointment
with your mechanic.
