[W126 Coupe] Front Hub-Centric Wheel Spacers........

But then, I have a set of 18" rims that I had on the SEC with 15mm front
spacers and 20mm rear spacers. No problems there and then I moved the set
over to the 560SEL, no problems there either. Good quality hubcentric
spacers on decent quality rims.

When I put the rims on the car, the spacer/rims are put on the car, then I
put on the wheel bolts about half tight using the cross (star) pattern one
normally uses to tighten them. If it's a rear wheel, then with the parking
brake engaged I tighten the bolts kinda all the way then one more time
around with a clicker torque wrench to 82 ft. pounds. With fronts, I get
them as tight as reasonably possible, the lower the car until that tire is
just barely on the ground, enough to get sufficient traction to finish the
tightening the bolts.

The goal in all that is to try to make sure the wheel is centered when the
bolts are tightened. These cars are VERY sensitive to any out of roundness
from any source. I just had the SEL wheels balanced via a Hunter GSP9700
(http://www.gsp9700.com/) but haven't had a chance to go out on a highway to
see if that's eliminated the little bit of vibration I still have left.
YMMV, don't ya know.

Jon,
I once tried 5mm spacers for the front when I installed a set of BBS wheels
on my SEC.
Could not get them to seat properly as I think the front hub is slightly
tapered and not the same diameter as the rear hub. I also tried the H&R 10mm
and 15mm I use on the rear; they wouldn't work either even though the hub
diameter is supposed to be the same.
I ended up mounting the wheel without any spacers and it worked out fine
with no clearance issues at the brake caliper and steering linkage.
I would avoid spacers in the front if at all possible.
Just my experience,
Sam

Hi,

Apologies as I know from the past a lot has been mentioned about wheels
spacers....

But....

Does anybody have any information on hub-centric spacers specifically for
the front as i know anything over approx 5mm is a problem.

Regards

Jon
