I had a noise coming from either my alternator or water pump.
Found it was neither - the radiator wasn't sitting down nicely and it was the fan lightly touching the cowl!!
Push the radiator header tank down firmly. Maybe you got the same problem...

Subject: [W126 Coupe] Differences between an 89 & a 91
hi,
I am bringing the 91to a dealership this week. The motor was smoking from both sides, I couldn't see if it was covers or heaedgaskets. There was fluid coming from the rear pipes. There was a noise coming from the bellhousing (The tranny was totally rebuilt by a shop in Jersey for $2,200.00)
There was a noise coming from either the alternator or the water pump.
This car does have a slip switch that mine doesn't have. Does it make a difference?
My car has been dealer service and corrected for the past 3 years. This car is a stranger. It was also hit by the drivers side rear wheel, not a great job. Can still see waves.
Car does seem to idle nice. I didn't drive it. It looked like it sat straight./Everything worked. A/C was cold. Black on Black $5,500.00 I will either keep mine or sell it for $6,000.00 even though I put a few grand into it. I would love to keep it. Pull the heads and make it run on regular.
Any thoughts?
I love the breed.
Jack
