[W126 Coupe] Exhaust smell inside car

Hi!

The ol' 89 is developing an exhaust smell inside the car.  Mostly at
stop lights but sometimes on the road too.  Same smell each time and
has been happening for about a month now, so I don't think it's other
cars.  No noticible increase in oil consumption at oil changes.  Has
around 105,000 miles now.

I don't have a lift so it's hard to tell, but there may be some
traditional leakage on the rear of the engine (valve cover or head
gasket type).  Could be some oil burning off.  Also heard about the
exhaust crossover pipe that it rusts out or something and develops
leaks.

Any suggestions on where to look next?  I'm thinking of asking my
local mechanic to raise it up and give me a look-see......
