[W126 Coupe] A/C charge/conversion

I'm not sure if Mr. Barton is still around since it was eight years ago that I moved here. Anyway, DO NOT take it to the import place across from Le Relais at Bowman Field. They work on a lot of different euro imports. I found they did a lot of unnecessary work and their parts and labor prices were very close to what the dealers charge.

I found a mechanic in Jefffersonville,IN who used to work at Tafel. He did some work on my car a few times. I might give him a call and see what he would do to fix my A/C. I tried finding your old mechanic but didn't see anything, but I may go by there and check again. My mechanic is called River City Imports and works only on Mercedes.

Thanks.

Tad, I used to live in Lou. The mechanic I used was a former Tafel MB tech. He specialized in the older Benz, i.e. W126, 123, 124, 140, R107, 129. He was located at the corner of Highland Av. and Barret Av. (I used to live on Highland) I'm not sure if he's still around, but you could check. His name is Jim Barton. He did all my work on my 300SD I had at the time.

I am in Louisville, KY. I guess I just assumed that R12 was banned. I did notice that the auto parts place had an R12 refill kit, so I assume that R12 is still being sold somewhere.

Tad,

Where are you located?

R12 is available in most places in the US. Price depends on the location and
regulations.

I can get R12 here in Pennsylvania. Not cheap, but considerably less
expensive than a conversion (to R134 which does not work as well in our
systems which are designed for R12).
