[W126 Coupe] Brake Pads

Hi Jonathan,
Bridgestone RE 71 205 55 VR 16 front
225 50 VR 16 rear
tyre pressures 2.8 bar front
3.2 bar rear

Track is very short & very tight. Lap times 58 sec!
Max speed down main straight is only 150kph then braking into a hairpin bend.
Back straight maybe 130/135 kph braking into hairpin.
Two other braking points.
Brakes never have a long time to recover.....
Very different conditions to your track.
Lichtenburg circuit has a reputation for being hell on the brakes.

How fresh is your brake fluid?
I had boiling fluid until I flushed it out & put in fresh fluid.

What have you done to counter the under steer?
Are you still on stock rear anti roll bar?

I think I need to make up a new one 16mm diam in place of the stock 14mm item.
Is that going to be enough? - time will tell.

I also melted the sensors long ago. Don't bother will them on the track.

Alec

I'm surprised...how fast are you getting up to on the track you run? We have one turn where I come down from 140+ MPH do about 50 or so..

With the Ceramic pads and ATE Super Blue I could boil my fluid rather easily if I wasn't careful..and I burned up the pads quite badly. What size tyres are you running?

Based on the temps I was generating (melted the sensors right out of the pads) I do not believe there is any street capable pad that will do the job.

The pads I'm using are not racing pads. Just the best off the shelf stuff available here.
However, I have as good brakes at the end of the race as on the first lap. Zero sign of fade that I am detecting. Can't ask for more than that.
This is day / night compared with running Tektar pads where after 7 laps I had almost zero brakes left*.
Brake fluid: nothing special - Castrol dot 4.
I was going to duct air but found that by removing the fog lights I seemed to be getting enough air.
Ducting was not going to be easy because at full lock I was going to foul the ducting on the tyre and the standard backing plates only have those narrow slots close to the hub plus all sorts of strange bulges on the backing plate. I decided to ditch them and let the air take care of itself. Certainly something I've done is right cos my brakes are wonderful.
Possibly ditching the backing plates was the winning ticket?
* The total brake fade was with fog lights still fitted and backing plates fitted.

I'd be rather surprised to find a pad that will survive on the track that would feel fine/work well for everyday.

In just trying a set of PBR ceramics I wasn't happy with how they felt on the street, and just running a track w/e @ Road Atlanta utterly decimated the pads.

Are you running ducting to your brakes? What fluid?

I'm looking at the Porterfield RS pads and plan on running them track only.
