[W126 Coupe] Model designation plaque

  Hi,
 I removed the "560SEC" plate on my trunk lid and found that it didn't have
the pin and grommet method of fastening but instead it had this thick black
goo, kinda like roofing tar.
  Anybody know what this is?
 A possible workaround that the previous owner used?
 It worked well. Never got soft or allowed the plate to shift around.

Are there any suggestions for a glue to reattach the plate?
