[W126 Coupe] Becker & Speakers for sale

First off, you'll find Becker to be a great company. They can still
refurbish the old units (though, since there isn't much demand for the
old units most people just find one somebody replaced and buy that used
unit). If it's a 1985, there shouldn't be any lock code issue with
removing the radio, assuming the head units in the Euro's weren't
drastically different from what we got here in the US.

The car can take any DIN 1 head unit (basically, any standard head
unit). Nothing looks quite as fitting as the original stereo; however,
there is the new Becker radio sold through MB dealerships, and what I
put in my car which I think are among the better looking aftermarket
units. I went with a Nakamichi CD400 (you can see it in my car here
http://www.davidson.smugmug.com/gallery/481122). The problem with the
Nak units is there is no more US sales, but there are ebay stores that
get them (I got mine from ebay seller indoaudio). Nak does have QC
problems, you'll either get an AMAZING unit that works as it's supposed
to, or you get a lemon. Also, service isn't so easy to come by as even
the NakUSA website has basically been wiped out (except for the contact
info for some service centers) with a notice of limited part
availability. But, it was the best looking readily available unit I
could find (the CD500 is almost the same thing only it can play MP3 CD's
and has some different color options).

On putting in a different stereo, there is a little bit of wiring to do,
and IIRC the speakers in the car are 6ohm and the aftermarket headunits
are all 4ohm, meaning if you want to change one you have to change them
all (well, don't have to, but should...I avoided all this and just ran
new speakers and wires). So, if you want something easy where you just
take out your head unit and put another one in, you want to get an
original Becker unit.
Richard

Hey Bellamy,

You're right, I'm trying to keep it original and I hate that Star Wars
Crap (old school, old guy) I didn't know about the Blauplunkts, will
they fit in the original dash hole ? (I won't butcher the car at all),
I'll put up with an inferior radio first.
