Are you referring to my recent praise? :-)
My fintail is also a 1963 model! (220b - which model do you have?). I cannot praise that car enough.
Just this weekend, she surprised me again at how absolutely lively (engine responds to throttle like my mother's 2004 MG TF160)
and turbine-smooth that engine is. But, as you mention, the true virtue of that car is the legendary reliability. You just cannot
get it to give up. And whatever you do in that car, you do it in style...
That is truly a fantastic car that will outlast me, I think (And I'm 25). I am hoping I can say the same thing about my 560SEC,
I would also love 31 years of ownership... Whereas the fintail is reliability defined, the SEC is refinement defined.
Absolute refinement. I am very disappointed in recent Mercedes cars, even down to the paintwork they seem inferiour.
I think, as you all know, this is not just nostalgia or jealousy - it's veritable truth. Most everybody I know with new MBs
have serious problems with them - from batteries dying (and requiring a "factory reset"), to electronics going crazy, to
interiour trim.

P.S> I share your motoring-club sentiment: This mailing list has a hundred times the expertise you'll
find in *any* motor club, thanks guys!

Hey thanks again guys regarding the SEC rear window rust and window switch type changes. This site has been a great help to me. Previous help locating and repairing the faulty idle control unit that was located deep up under my steering coloum has saved me big dollars and no time lost! One doesn't have to be too smart to tackle some fairly basic repairs. Surprisingly I had no help from the local MB club here in Brisbane........all they could say was go to a particular dealer and get 10 per cent discount! I was very dissapointed at that response as I thought that's what motoring clubs were for. I also own a '63 finny and good to see some recent praise. This is my 31st year of owning it and it has never stressed me with bad problems. Still surprises others on the freeway for only a 2.2litre. Starts first time, built by engineers not accountants!......Barry (AUS)
