[W126 Coupe] Mercedes stock shocks, HD or comfort?

And to ensure you're completely confused - I agree with Alexander, disagree
with Jonathan. Both my SEL and SEC are lowered and the comfort shocks are
just fine. Several years ago here there was a big discussion on which shock
to use and the consensus was the comfort was best, by a wide margin. Like
Alexander said, most that went to HD didn't like it. I took the SEC out on
Laguna Seca raceway with the comforts and it tracked great. The car was
better than my abilities, no loss of control due to "soft" shocks (we won't
discuss the nut behind the wheel though). With H&R springs and 245/40/18
tires/rims, the SEC is plenty stiff. HD shocks, IMHO, will make it
noticeably too stiff.

BUT, it's your choice and the best way to find out is to get a ride in a car
with each. Where are you located?

Matt, Bilstein Comfort shocks are stock and is what to use up front. Those
who have tried the HD report harshness and went back to comfort whether
lowered or not. Of course the rears have no coventional shocks for self
leveling but the nitrogen cells sometimes need to be replaced. The symptoms
are very obvious for rears. Jim Alexander

Hey all,

Are the stock Mercedes front shocks along the lines of Bilstein HD or
comfort? What matches best with stock rear self-leveling? My car isn't
lowered or anything, just looking to get it as stock.

Thanks!
