[W126 Coupe] Poor acceleration

guys,
    Am i the only one experiencing this or not, but it seems like the C126 'pick- up' speed from a stop light is so horrible that you actually have to almost floor it to get decent speed . A buddy of mine has a stock volkswagen golf  2.0 L ( not GTI), and that little thing has more pick up speed than my C126 whose engine capacity is 2.5 times the size of the golf. I think this is really horrible for a mercedes.
    Any opinions out there.
