[W126 Coupe] Hood pad replacement

I guess I'll try to tackle the hood pad replacement on my R129 today.  
The front edge has some sort of plastic plug/rivet things, but the pad 
is mostly glued to the underside of the hood.  Any suggestions on 
easiest way to scrape the old pad from the hood, or perhaps some sort 
of solvent to remove the last bits of it without eating through the 
paint or hood?
