Get a couple of estimates and bring your cousin with you (in the trunk)!

Judging by what was done to the car, I'm thinking toasted tranny and damaged
motor, but judging by the symptoms, I think there might still be hope. Take
it either to an MB dealer or a independant shop that specializes in MB. Have
then flush the tranny fluid, check the motor mounts, check the tranny
mounts, check the differential mounts..basically just have then experience
the problem and then find it. If the shop charges for an estimate like that,
tell your "cousin" he's paying (I'm suspicious that there is a cousin
because who in the world would own up to doing such idiotic things with a
car that isn't theirs?).
