Thanks Bellamy, but I think I have found another one available which is listed for a W126 and does have the sensor. The part number you mention is the same, but only on the sun roof switch itself, so I think although the roof switch is the same, maybe the rest isn't if as you say without sensor.

P.S. I am not going to jump to conclusions, but I think I have finally solved the battery drain mystery. Need a few more days testing to confirm, then if it proves correct, I will fill you in on the details.

  Yes, they are the same part.  Interior Light (w/o temp sensor of course) 124 820 24 01.  The W124 300E went into production roughly the same time as the W126 560SE/SEL.
