[W126 Coupe] Hood not latching!

Dick,

seeing how both latches failed, I have a feeling the issue is the cable.. nonetheless, I will perform your advice because I'm sure it's never been done, and it's possible that's the issue anyway. As for a solvent, would brake parts cleaner work? and regarding re-installing with new grease, what kind of grease should I use?
