[W126 Coupe] Re-Chroming

Rebuilding thin metal for rechroming is a difficult and time consuming process and success is marginal. On the old 50 and 60's automobiles, the chrome rings, et al, were usually made of heavy white metal, so you cleaned everything up and filled with tin lead, filed and sanded smooth and rechromed. Generally you need to remove the old chrome. I have had some success filling and finishing parts using high temperature epoxies and then having it powder coated with chrome PC. Wheels are the most successful. 
You would be better of finding good used stuff and have it PC'd in chrome finish before it corrodes.
If you do find some successful way of restoration, let us know.

  Hello,

  I will be getting my 1988 560 SEC repainted this summer. One question: Has anyone found a good way to have the chromed parts on the bumpers and around lights rebuilt before sending the parts to be chromed? The chrome parts seems to have been destroyed from the underside of the part (galvanic?). I would like to offer some suggestions to the paint shop.
