I would imagine an improper spec bulb elsewhere in the car would cause the
bulb out indicator to light up right away.
I have not changed a bulb since January, which brings me to Alex's
question.
  I haven't tested the 3rd brake light other than seeing it come on each
time I brake. That's what you mean, right?
And no LED bulbs. I wasn't aware that LEDs were available? Or are you
referring to accessory or "add on" lighting?

Thanks for the replys. I am going to do a bulb sweep throughout the car at
the least.
