[W126 Coupe] Gearbox wiring help really, really needed please!

I posted a question re gearbox wiring compatibility last weekend - but drew
no responses (or I can't find it if I did get one).  So - here goes again...

 

I'm putting an '87 560SEC engine and gearbox into an '83 500SEC - using the
500's wiring loom and fuel system.

 

The 500 gearbox main plug has 5 wires at the shift lever connection.  The
'87 box only has 4 wires on this plug - but has an additional plug about six
inches further forward with 2 pins on it (no comparable plug on the 500 box)
I assume this latter connection is for the sports / economy switch?  Is this
the case?  Can anyone help with info on what the 5th wire is on the '500
box.  Do I just ignore it?

 

I really need to get this combo into the car this weekend if possible.  I've
got the MB CD manual - but it won't work on my current computer.  

 

Any help graciously appreciated.
