Interesting..as a Lot of Crane/Isky/Reed etc cams live in condition far more
punishing then our Mercedes w/a 6000 RPM red line subject them too..Hell, we
spun our Healey's to 7K and they were Far more punishing to cams for a
multitude of reasons, yet they held up well (Isky cams).
Cam design/technology has come a long way in the last 15-20 years since our
standard/amg cams were designed. I'd be very surprised if greater
improvements couldn't be realized w/ some R&D/computer analysis.
One thing to note, when you do install new cams these days you MUST add a
zinc additive to your oil...the oil these days has very little zinc (a high
pressure lubricant) to comply w/ manufactures 100,000 mile warranty's (zinc
is hard on O2 sensors/cats and the like).
Crane and other cam manufactures are aware of this problem and I know GM and
a few other manufactures make said additive.
