Give the white screw in front of the air cleaner and behind the thermostat housing a half turn either way and see what happens. You might need to replace the idle control valve, sounds to be running lean it might be an air leak?.

I have an idle problem that is getting worse and worse. Sometimes it will idle great, then it will decide to start idling REALLY bad. After awhile it will start running OK again.

Last time it did it, I pulled the air cleaner to check the metering unit. What I found is that it is running extremely lean - by pressing down on the metering plate (a LOT), I can get it to run great.

Higher RPM & high power operation is fine.

Anybody know what might be the culprit?

Thanks,
Scott Kelley
