Rick:

It's likely the idle control module up about center on the firewall has 
failed.  You can get a rebuilt unit from www.benzstore.com for $150 or 
so.  Could also be a dirty air slider valve or loose fitting hoses to 
the valve.  Check the archives for 'high idle' and you'll see a volume 
of information.
