Some thoughts on the MB AC Freon issues that I thought I'd pass along.
Just yesterday, I stopped to discuss the seemingly long waiting period
for my '90 SEC to cool down at 95 to 98 degrees ambient outside
temp.with an A.C. specialist that works on my classic American cars very
satisfactorily. My system is fine, he says it just takes a little
longer in these hot days and I need to be patient especially when the
humidity is high but what he did point out very strongly was "Do not
change this R-12 Freon to R-134 or Freeze 12.(Freeze 12 contains 80%
134) Suck up the cost of R-12 @$40 a pound". He suggested that I find R
12 at swap meets and stock pile it if I'm going to keep the SEC

He told me that he has changed the products at the request of mid '80s
to early '90s MB owners (under protest) and to a person, they have come
back dissatisfied with the cooling capabilities of their cars. He has
converted my '64 Impala SS and my '71 442 convertible to R134 and they
work fine and he agrees that they should but the MBs just don't react
the same. He does not have an explanation why . If others have made the
change successfully, I'd be interested as a general education point in
the event I need to consider this in spite Neils advice.
