[W126 Coupe] Was the Self Leveling Suspension on the 380SEC aGimmick?

Ha ha ha.. That was funny.

Mike, this Mechanic helped sort out my idling by completely modyfying the
idling valve in the Engine with a screw that we can adjust. This seemed to
help the car from that rough idle as well as stalling.

I think the Mech wanted to go for the Normal Shock Absorbers & tighten the
springs due the factr that new shock on this car is so expensive. No you
telling me about the self levelling hydraulic accumulators under the back of
t car. The mech also made mention that we have to change the rear bush
mountings.

Whats the difference between the SLS hydraulic shocks and the hydraulic
accumulators?

And

Is this rear bushes the same as the rubber bushings you made mention of in
the e-mail below? Cos if it is this is going to cost R2000 from MB, for the
kit.

Is there some sort of way we can test the rear suspension and check why I am
losing the hydraulic fluid (not forgetting the leaking hydraulic fluid
container) as well as test to see all other rear suspension parts.

Ever so grateful

If you have an exceptionally hard ride in the back and your mechanic is
telling you that you need to new rear shocks, there are two things you need
to do immediately:

1.	fire the mechanic, he has no idea what he's doing.
2.	replace the self-leveling hydraulic accumulators under the back of
the car (~$120 each), a DIY job. While you're at it, replace the rubber
bushings on the top of the rear hydraulic rams (the shock absorber looking
things).

This system is a lot more expensive to maintain for now I need two new
shocks in the rear. This is amounting to R3000 ($500) each. I have a
proposal to completely remove the SLS from this SEC & put a normal
conventional suspension system.

Apparently the SLS as opposed to Air Shocks gives a much harder drive,
please correct me if I am wrong but the SLS served for only balancing the
car at all times regardless of the Load.

Do you think I should modify my SEC with Normal Suspension and Tighten the
Springs

Cost of this is estimated at R6000 ($1000)
