Two reasons...one, what Richard said, which is that it winds up costing more than premium.

Two, and most importantly, read the bottle carefully. The "point" they talk about is actually a tenth of a point! So when they say "raises octane eight points", they mean from 89 to 89.8. What a rip-off, and hardly anyone knows this little tidbit.

If you want good stuff, get additive from www.torco.com, or even better, go to Sherwin Williams or any paint store and buy a five gallon pail of Toluene. 114 octane, and boy does it make a difference. I used it all the time in turbocharged track cars.....much cheaper than race gas. This is the stuff, back in the '80s that was the primary ingredient in the Formula 1 "rocket fuel" they used to achieve 1500HP from 1.8 litre turbo motors running 60 lbs of boost!

  Why cant one just add octane boost to the fuel?  They have stuff for 5bucks that claim a 10 point increase in octane.  Any thoughts??

    There is a 750 ohm resistor (US models) inside a black plug in the wiring harness up near the brake booster. It contributes to the computer's decision on spark advance. For other markets, an adjustment can be made as follows:

          Setting Ohms Retard Octane 
          S 10000 0 98 
          2 2400 2 95 
          N 1300 4 93 
          4 750 6 91 
          5 470 8 89 
          6 220 10 87 
          7 0 
         
         

    But I gotta tell ya', with 470 ohms in there it is going to feel sluggish!
