To be effective, rear-facing scoops are connected only to the air 
intake, not the engine compartment ambient. The idea is to get COLD air 
in to the intake. (At least in racing weather<G>!)

Nor was I -- but there is a space between the two firewalls that I think 
is exposed to outside air but not engine compartment heat. There may be 
a way to duct that into the air filter.

Actually, turning only 6000 RPM, or engines don't need as much air as 
Penske's race cars did.
