Wouldn't that allow airflow coming through the radiator to flow up over the top of the motor and out the scoop?  Pointing the air filter scoop backward would prevent any particles entering as the heavier particles are propelled straight past.

What I had in mind was the air filter cowling below the bonnet/hood.  I wasn't thinking of modifying the hood itself.  I think there is enough air circulating below the hood as it is (but I only ride in the cab so I'm guessing here- this could be a job for the kids :)
