[W126 Coupe] Paradise by the dashboard light?

I'd second Jason's advice to check the rheostat first.
If it is bad and you have to replace, I'd certainly change all the dash
bulbs while you are at it. The bulbs get darker with age as dust gets
"burned" to the glass.
The large dash bulbs are 3 watt and don't go for the 5 watt "upgrade" as the
load on the wiring gets to be a problem.
The tiny lights are 1.2 watt (if I remember correctly) and don't appear to
darken with age. I guess the heat output is not enough to "burn" dust or
they are simply not used enough to either burn out or turn dark.
