By the way, back to the original question - how to turn the engine. If the
spark plugs are out of it and you can't turn it with the crankshaft bolt,
there is something else wrong inside the engine.

Quick question.

A salvage yard owner gave me this camshaft for the
passenger side a long time ago, for free.  He
suggested that I could get it polished to make it
usable, despite the rust.  

At first glance it looks like it is almost completely
unusable, but is polishing really something you can do
to a camshaft that looks like this? 

Would it work if you are really careful and don't
shave anything (too much) off the existing metal on
