[W126 Coupe] smell of burning rubber

  Hi all,
 My 87 exhibits a burning rubber smell after any spirited driving. It comes
from the right side of the engine compartment near the back around the
exhaust manifold.
I need to get a real close look from below and I will this weekend. I can
see nothing in contact with the exhaust.
 I know that some cars have a heat shield around the idler arm pivot where
the rubber bushings fit in the frame tube. No heat shield on my car but I
can't see any evidence of overheating on that area.
Anybody have anything like this in their history.
